In a captivating interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she reminisced about her struggles with acne during her teenage years. The high-end products she initially used only exacerbated her skin issues, leading her mother to step in with natural remedies rooted in their Somali heritage.
Using a blend of African botanicals, Sabrina’s mother was able to transform her skin, a tradition that would later inspire the foundation of S’Able Labs.
“I grew up watching [my mom] make [her] own products and face masks and DIY, everything in the kitchen,” Sabrina recalls fondly. “I think that was probably, I mean for sure the influence that led me to adding these African botanicals into the [S’Able Labs] skincare range.”
Teaming up with her actor husband Idris Elba, Sabrina has crafted a line that not only honors their African roots but also promises to deliver powerful results. “The fact that we come from East Africa and [Idris] is from West Africa and this sort of continental theme, African theme, this Pan-African theme … what I realized, and sort of become addicted to is these stories and heritage pieces around these ingredients and these customs,” Sabrina explains.
