DMX: An Unforgettable Legend
The American rapper Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, passed away after suffering a heart attack at the age of 50. In his final days, the late DMX was surrounded by love from his family, friends, and devoted fans.
His legacy in the rap game will be forever noted, as he was a trendsetter during the rap era of the early ’90s. Although the rapper had to overcome a rough upbringing, and battling with addiction throughout his life, Simmons did not allow the setbacks to define his future or the impact he has left in the rap game.
As a rapper erupting in the ’90s and making his mark, DMX set himself apart from the crowd with his explosive beats, deep lyrics, and catchy rhythm. He was unique and genuine and unlike any other of his time. He skyrocketed to the top of the charts, and he continued to make his imprint in the rap game. He has broken records and performed in some of the largest crowds to date.
Aside from the music, DMX was also a humble and genuine person who believed in giving back and practicing what he preached. He did not allow his shortcomings to define him, from being incarcerated to sleeping on the streets, and struggling with drug abuse and addiction, DMX worked through breaking free from his own inhibitions.
Looking at the life of DMX sheds light on a much more powerful message. He was a black man paving a way for himself and the young men who would soon follow. As a black man, he faced injustice and suffering and rose above all the noise and ridicule. DMX never feared to be himself exactly how he was. Despite his personal struggles, DMX remained true to his career and what he loved, which was music. His impact on the world continues to shine forth and that signifies how we are not our past mistakes.
Whatever one may be struggling with, it does not define who you are. Rather, it is how you continue to move forward and pave your pathway and not allow your inner struggles to hinder the accomplishment you were destined to achieve.
We celebrate black men who rise in their power and continue to excel in their strengths. We can look to DMX life as an inspiration and motivation to keep pressing forward and do not let your inner inhibitions hold you back.
It is unfortunate that a bright soul's light was dimmed so soon, but a valuable lesson is to be reminded: that in life you never know when the last time will be the last time. Cherish the moments that you have today and the experiences that you are granted in this lifetime. They are precious and should not be taken for granted, as you never know when you will no longer have the opportunity to continue those experiences. In addition, you never know what someone may be going through or struggling with in life so it is imperative we extend humility, patience, and kindness to one another. Life is too short and everything can change in the blink of an eye.
Gone but never forgotten, he has left behind many noteworthy accomplishments, unique music, and memorable moments that will surpass a lifetime. We will continue to celebrate DMX and his legacy.
REST IN POWER!
