Beyonce Donates $500K To Cosmetology Schools Across Nation
Beyoncé's recent act of generosity has once again captured the hearts of many as she donated $500K in scholarships to students at 10 cosmetology schools nationwide. The schools were carefully selected as scholarship partners for her Cécred x BeyGOOD fund, a program designed to assist cosmetology students on their educational journeys.
The chosen institutions are renowned for their dedication to providing the next generation of stylists with top-notch instruction and resources to help diverse communities thrive. Among the five schools set to receive funding is Jana’s Cosmetology School in Clementon, New Jersey, whose CEO, Atiya Johnson, shared the exciting news on her Instagram back in February.
The scholarships will amount to $10,000 each for 25 students who are pursuing licensure as cosmetologists. In addition to Jana's Cosmetology School, other participating institutions include Beaver Beauty Academy in Atlanta, Trenz Beauty Academy in Chicago, and Universal College in Los Angeles. Representing Beyoncé's hometown is the Franklin Institute in Houston.
Prospective students enrolled or planning to enroll at any of these five schools are strongly encouraged to apply for the scholarship opportunity, with the application deadline set for March 20.
The funding doesn't stop there as salon owners are also set to benefit from Beyoncé's charitable endeavor. Licensed stylists, including barbers, who own or rent a space to conduct business and demonstrate financial need will be eligible to apply for one of the twenty-five grants of $10,000 each, set to be awarded throughout the year starting April 20.
These initiatives are closely tied to Beyoncé's latest venture, her haircare line Cécred, which was released to the public on Feb. 20. The brand aims to celebrate all hair types and textures while promoting optimal hair health and giving back through the entertainer's philanthropic efforts.
Beyoncé's BeyGOOD foundation has a history of supporting businesses and students, with a special emphasis on uplifting HBCU scholars and Black entrepreneurs. With her ongoing commitment to uplifting those with ambitious goals, Beyoncé's humanitarian efforts continue to leave a lasting impact.
