Being Superwoman: Tips for a Mommypreneur

Running a business and being a mother is definitely a difficult job, but in our current generation, being a mompreneur is encouraged and celebrated.

Along with this superwoman title, comes a huge level of responsibility (and frustration if not balanced properly) far more than the average mom has to deal with daily. Women are built to maintain many positions at once, but no one has ever said that it's always easy. It comes with many different challenges, regardless of that, it won't stop the show.

Women always seem to make it work. That's one of the many gifts that women are blessed with, the ability to multitask. We are moving to become entrepreneurs because of political and economic reasons, and having the flexibility of controlling your schedule is a huge plus.

Maintaining a business can be a gift and a curse, therefore it holds its advantages and disadvantages. Often, those mompreneurs have to stay up long hours and be sure to make time for everyone and everything. As a mother, they aim to make sure that things go right in their homes; it's important for them that everyone is taken care of, a lot of times making the mistake of putting themselves last.

Today things are a lot different than they used to be. Mothers used to stay at home and take care of the house; while the fathers worked and financially cared for the family. Nevertheless, things change and evolve as time moves on. Women are becoming more independent and wearing more hats. Mothers are working to provide for their families and building legacies. The moms today are determined to work hard and make it happen no matter what.

Raising children and growing a business requires knowledge of how to balance our lives and there are things that they have to do to be successful. Being a mompreneur requires consistent nurturing and attention for the business and family for them to grow and have a positive outcome. This is why it's important to have a system that works to prevent burnout:

  • Make some time for yourself, even if it is only for 10 minutes.

  • Set a schedule and stick to it. Set times that you're not available to anyone including your children.

  • To be successful, there must be a lot of time management, organization, and balance.

  • Always keep a notebook handy or some type of organizer, so that you can keep your thoughts together and be able to jot down ideas or information that you don’t want to forget.

Working a business and maintaining a family does have its complications, but in the end, it is a blessing for not only your future but the future of your children and grandchildren. It leaves behind a legacy while you're a business running your business. Keep in my mind to let your children help in any way possible.
